GE is to give away twelve “Build Your Own Jet Engine” kits, as well as 3D printable design files. The assembly kit allows aviation enthusiasts to build their own 3D printed jet engine replicas. This 3D printed model is designed to comfortably fit on desks, mantelpieces and most birthday cakes. The contest has been running since July 11th and will end on July 21st when the first 12 entrants will receive their notifications via email. Every potential winner will be subsequently sent their prize within 2-4 weeks. This competition is open to residents of the 48 continental states of America, as well as DC. Entrants need to be over 18 years of age.

If you cannot participate in the contest, not to worry: GE has gone further to allow everyone to make their own 3D printed jet engines from the comfort of their home. It is possible to download the design files that GE uploaded of the model engine on Thingivrse. The design files were rendered by designer Patrick Saville and will take approximately 12 hours to print out.
