A new crowd funding initiative was recently launched with the aim of improving the lives of disabled children all over the world through the help of 3D printing. This initiative goes by the name Andiamo, and is raising funds to build a service for kids who suffer from various debilitating physical defects.

The team behind Andiamo hopes to use 3D printing to create a service that will offer fast and affordable high-quality orthopedics to children who need them. The initiative is the brainchild of Naveed and Samiya Parvez who lost their son Diamo to complications that originated from his cerebral palsy.
Their loss inspired them to start this 3D printing service for purposes of reducing waiting times from six months to just a few days for hand splints, back braces and ankle foot orthoses. With 3D printing and scanning, Andiamo can not only make these items fast, but can also increase their overall quality.
The team will be working together with Digits2Widgets, the 3D printing experts with extensive knowledge in the application of industrial strength to 3D printers for medical situations. They will also collaborate with a number of universities in the UK, and an ongoing research project at Kingston University.
